Most of the time I'm too backed up on orders to consider doing custom orders, but I thought I'd write up a quick guide about custom ordering something and what to expect along with a few requests...
MOST of the time custom orders are not available for single rectangle veils , but are available for the half circle pairs and possibly skirt sets. If you are inquiring about custom orders for clothing, the minimum order is $89.
1) It's understandable you may want to inquire about an order, discuss colors, talk about time to completion, pricing, and then shop elsewhere. But please keep in mind when a time estimate is given for your project, I'm looking at that day on the calendar, I'm saying "yes if we start these by x date, I should be able to fit them in by x date, etc"
Work does not start until we confirm all details and payment is made. So if we start talking about your order on Jan. 1st, then we don't finalize it until the 14th, please keep in mind the completion date will have changed.
I get a lot of frequent requests from dancers who inquire about pricing and time to completion, but then I don't hear back for a week or so. By then your custom order slot has been given to someone else so I need to tell you a new completion date.
Again your order must be confirmed and paid for before work starts. I MAY have to order specific supplies for your custom work. This may take up to six weeks.
2) Please order well in advance of your needs. I don't normally have items laying around. I can't do rush orders..its not fair to those who have stood in line and it also causes an extreme amount of stress to both of us.
3) Custom order slots and their availability varies widely..one week I may be open but slots may fill overnight
4) I have the right to close down the custom order option at any time.
5) If you change your mind, please let me know asap so I don't sit here waiting to hear back from you. As mentioned I don't 'hold' spots.
6) No refunds on custom orders. Just like when you custom order a costume from Egypt, custom orders are non-refundable. I disclose up front that colors may not match your costume. Also, colors on your computer monitor may look different than on my monitor.
7) You can resell your custom order using the A'Kai Silks name and any photos that may have been taken.
8) 99.999% of the time I don't take photos of custom orders. Taking photos and transferring them to the computer, sizing them and emailing them is VERY time consuming. With that said i try my best to work with what you want but again color matches are not guaranteed. Also keep in mind that colors on silk will have a different hue than a costume you may have that is made of lycra or velvet.
9) I dont rush ship. Unless it's under really unusual circumstances or we've been long time business friends and you agree to watch my kid. I just don't rush ship. Also I don't use any other services than first class and priority mail.
10) thou shalt sign your custom order request in blood red ink indicating you have read all the above commandments.
A final note that wholesale orders DO NOT include custom orders. Wholesale veils are sold at a discount to your troupe or class, or sold so you can resell them at your event. Custom orders usually have a mark up of 20% for the extra work involved.
