the sleep within surgery

this is going to sound weird but when they put you to sleep for surgery , you are in almost a meditative state. i remember the nurse telling me she was going to give me some oxygen and i remember breathing something very pure, then i was asleep

it's pretty amazing the human body can be put to sleep just like that. i don't remember ever having oxygen before , even during childbirth. but i can still sense that pure oxygen feeling in the lungs. it felt good.

after a surgery your body has to relearn to eat and do normal things. it gives you a chance to reset your habits. a few times now i've wanted to give up coffee but it never lasted til the next day. am still stuck on that habit and many others. post surgery and how you have to care for your body gives you a chance to add in new healthy habits. you get a new diet, a new sleep pattern, you are forced to rest, you are forced to watch your body signals.

i wonder what really goes on when we are asleep during surgery. i don't remember any dreams from it.
